Okay, so you’ve heard that your sober, hard-working committee had one wine too many and decided to carry the Flashdance theme of the morning fun-surf into the evening.
Now we know that some of you can’t remember the 80s because:
(a) you weren’t born
(b) you don’t want to
(c) the drugs were better back then
(d) you were at Suzi’s 30th
Which has left you wondering what the hell to wear.
Well wonder no more. Every week a hot 80s fashion tip will be brought to you by someone who can’t answer yes to (a) above. By someone, what’s more, who was designing and making clothes that people in the 80s actually wore! So forget all that retro styling you see in Sportsgirl and Vinnies. You think the men’s and women’s WCT is close….well you ain’t seen nothing unless you’re down at Bondi Beach this Saturday 7 Nov for the final BGSR points scoring event for 2010! Yes, this is the big one, surfing careers will be won or lost this Saturday, tears will be shed, yelps of ecstacy heard across the latte sipping Eastern Suburbs as we witness the pain and triumph of our season’s climax…..and if all that fails, we’ll have our usual lovely time of chatting, gossiping, coffee drinking, dancing and a little bit of surfing and judging in between….

Hey BGSR surfer chicks…. Just thought we’d remind you of some important dates to put in your Calendar for the rest of the year. These are not to be missed events!
1. October competition – Saturday 10th October (the first Saturday is on the long weekend so it’s the weekend after – but you know that already don’t you?!)
2. Chloe Byron Memorial Long Board Contest – Sunday 18th October. This is an amazing day in so many ways and BGSR is a big supporter so come on down. We’ll have our tent set up and lots of us will be competing in the women’s comp. See www.bondilongboardclub.com for all the details. Oh, if you are driving your car, get there early – the car park fills up quicker than the south bank of Bondi when the waves are crankin.
3. November comp – we don’t have ta tell ya when that’s on do we??
4. End of year bash – Saturday 5th December from sunrise to sunset (or nearly). 80’s dress up free surf at 9am, followed by presentation and party that afternoon/night for all present, past and future members, family and their friends at Waverly Bowling Club (our own exclusive room and surprise entertainment). There are even some lawn bowls in the arvo for those who want to start early! Stay tuned for more details….. Your dedicated and (goes without saying) very good looking committee xx

Callin all you frothin fillies! This Sunday 19 July we are holding our Let’s Go Surfing Training Session for beginners and intermediates.
Who: Beginners and intermediates – financial members only
How much: It’s free!!
When: 7.45am to 9.30am
Where: Meet at southern car park steps at Bondi Beach
Focus: How to improve your competitive performance – more specifically wave selection, take offs and turning

Hi Skeggettes
Just a reminder that our next comp is this Saturday 4th July down at Bondi Beach. We were planning to have our mid season BBQ after the comp but it looks like the weather is not going to be kind to us. Hence, we’ll keep it spontaneous and if it turns out ok maybe we can have an ‘post comp’ team surf. We had one on the soft boards from LGS after the last one and it was a hoot! See ya satdee xx

Versatile board – Tiki brand – a unique hybrid between a fish and a gun.
7 foot long, just under 20 inches wide. Moves quite fast, turns well. I actually learnt to surf on this board, and did fine when I was going out a lot. Then I went back and bought a fatter, longer board for an easier ride. If I wasn’t going away, I would hang onto it to use again. But the board must go as I’m packing up my house in two months time. A few people like Nell have ridden this board and can vouch for it as well. It had a ding on the nose when I bought it, and with me copped one on the side, but everything has been perfectly repaired, and thoroughly gone over by the Ding Doctor. It’s in great shape, and comes with a bag.
