Jungle Surfari V.I.P. Dress List

21 Nov

Wondering what to wear to the BGSR Jungle Surfari Backyard BBQ? Wondering who to bring? Well, you could do worse than look to Jerry Hall and Bryan Ferry for inspiration.

A little over-dressed I hear you say?

Nah! Just because Jerry called Bryan ‘a lampshade’ and then left him for Mick doesn’t mean he didn’t know what was what when it came to things sartorial.

And dance moves? Check this out:

Chloe Byron Memorial Longboard Comp

8 Oct

  • Chloe Byron memorial Contest
  • Sunday 17th Oct 2010
  • Registration from 7am, first heat 8am

Dave and Tia Byron extend a warm invitation to all girl surfers to come along and join and the Bondi surfing community to celebrate the life of Chloe Byron, who died in the Bali bombings.

Chloe was one of our first grommets, a real sweetie and a great long boarder.

Dave is a great ambassador of women’s surfing in Bondi and has recently been having some health issues, so this year it is more important than ever that we get behind this event. He promises fabulous prizes, trophies, delicious food (vegos catered for) and a day filled with the Aloha spirit.

It is a great way to show your support, meet other surfers and help to contribute to a worthy charity, the Homicide Victims Support Group, at the same time. BGSR supports this event every year. If you haven’t been to many of our comps this year, make sure this day is one you don’t miss, you will welcomed with open arms.

Disabled Surfer’s Association Surf Day – Sat Feb 27 – Collaroy Park

15 Feb

Lovely Miki from the Sydney Surf Group has given me the heads up about the next DSA Sydney event. See her note below.  BGSR girls, show your love by helping out on the day. If you can, wear your BGSR t-shirt from last year. RSVP by commenting on this post so I can email DSA numbers.

Hi everyone,

The Disabled Surfers Association (DSA) is a totally voluntary organisation existing purely on the support of their members and the local communities together with the occasional government help. Over the past 2 decades it has grown to 9 branches in 4 states.

The Sydney Branch has one day a year when it takes people of all disabilities for a “Hands On Day” to the beach to provide a safe and happy surfing experience to those who would otherwise rarely or never have the opportunity to enjoy the ocean or the stoke of riding on a wave. They have a very high helper to participant ratio, from a minimum of 6 to 1 out to as high as 30 to 1 with challenging participants. As such, volunteers are in great demand. (more…)

Saturday 7 Nov – the BGSR World title decider!

6 Nov

You think the men’s and women’s WCT is close….well you ain’t seen nothing unless you’re down at Bondi Beach this Saturday 7 Nov for the final BGSR points scoring event for 2010! Yes, this is the big one, surfing careers will be won or lost this Saturday, tears will be shed, yelps of ecstacy heard across the latte sipping Eastern Suburbs as we witness the pain and triumph of our season’s climax…..and if all that fails, we’ll have our usual lovely time of chatting, gossiping, coffee drinking, dancing and a little bit of surfing and judging in between….

C u all there

Hey BGSR surfer chicks…. Just thought we’d remind you of some important dates to put in your Calendar for the rest of the year. These are not to be missed events!

 1. October competition – Saturday 10th October (the first Saturday is on the long weekend so it’s the weekend after – but you know that already don’t you?!)

 2. Chloe Byron Memorial Long Board Contest – Sunday 18th October. This is an amazing day in so many ways and BGSR is a big supporter so come on down. We’ll have our tent set up and lots of us will be competing in the women’s comp. See www.bondilongboardclub.com for all the details. Oh, if you are driving your car, get there early – the car park fills up quicker than the south bank of Bondi when the waves are crankin.

3. November comp – we don’t have ta tell ya when that’s on do we??

4. End of year bash – Saturday 5th December from sunrise to sunset (or nearly). 80′s dress up free surf at 9am, followed by presentation and party that afternoon/night for all present, past and future members, family and their friends at Waverly Bowling Club (our own exclusive room and surprise entertainment). There are even some lawn bowls in the arvo for those who want to start early! Stay tuned for more details….. Your dedicated and (goes without saying) very good looking committee xx

So You Think You Can Surf?

3 Mar

Okay, so you don’t get to wear some really tacky costumes with sequins and polyester, but if you want to be in a surf-off against the other east-side clubs (apart from our very own BGSR – slightly contentious issue, but let’s not go there), here is your chance. Bondi Boardriders are looking for one, and one only, super-duper surfing female contestant (I’m sure they’d have more if rules allowed, but they don’t), to compete with them in the Frothers Buckler to Bra Tag Team Surfing Competition to be held at Bondi Beach on 21st March. (Didn’t we tell you that March was the Festival of the Surf?)

So, after you’ve ripped in the BGSR March comp. After you’ve sliced and diced your way through to the top at the BGSR and BB Interclub. Then you may be ready to take on the whole of the South Shore.
BB will put you in with their very best surfer so the chances of winning prizes (and did I hear someone say, money?), are not too shabby.

But don’t contact us. Contact Beau. He is the Prez of BB and his number is 0418 242 155. Or throw him an email. Good luck and we’ll be there to support you on the day.
