Kimmy Mac’s July Comp Wrap Up

6 Jul

Bondi turned on an amazing day for the Bondi Girls July comp in every way last Saturday and we were all stoked that mother nature had finally come up with the goods…

  • The Sun was shining
  • The Wind was offshore
  • Plenty of fun 2ft+ waves
  • Dolphins in the line up
  • Uncrowded (for a saturday)
  • Friendly vibe in the water

Hell, there were even people ice-skating on the beach!

In all my years in the club, i have never seen such an awesome final of the Adult beginners! These girls are surfing so well and are improving rapidly. It was inspiring to watch! In the end, Maggie took the honors, Michelle in 2nd and Sophia in 3rd. Special mention to Anna Sordo who impressed us all in her first ever comp, and Sarah Shannon who gets better every month.

You never know who will win the Junior girls, they are all great little surfers!  Today was Camille’s day though, winning the heat hands down. Bella in 2nd, and Ruby close behind in 3rd.

The Advanced Juniors must have slept in! So, Rebecca convincingly won the points. (you snooze, you loose girls)

The Longboard girls had the added bonus of surfing with a pod of Dolphins that dropped in for a few quick ones. I was out there and couldn’t wipe the smile off my face!1st Brenda Miley, 2nd Kim McMahon, 3rd Donna Simpson               Missing in action: Claire Norman (where are you girl?)

Jackie and new comer, Anne fought it out for the points in the Intermediate B’s with some fine surfing by both girls, but in the end there is only one winner. 1st Jackie, 2nd Anne

There were some pretty good waves coming through as the tide was running out for the final of the Intermediate A’s. Otis Carey was out there popping airs all over the place, we were wishing it was us! In the end Kim McMahon took the honors, Sophie Kijas in 2nd and Laura Fendt 3rd.

A Grade competition was fierce, everyone wanted the title today and the final was great to watch. Brenda, in top form (she also won Longboard) couldn’t be beaten, Juna came 2nd and Chrissy Riakos belted out an impressive 3rd place.

Other news – A special welcome to new members this month – Anna, Claire and Anne

BGSR Legend, Claire Norman competed in the NSW Longboard titles at Port Macquarie in June. She not only scored the highest heat score of the event, she came a respectable 2nd place, winning a spot in the NSW team to compete at the Aussie titles in August. Congrats Claire!

Upcoming events

  • 23rd July – Manly Surf and breakfast.
  • 6th August comp – Tag team event at Bondi

Comp this Saturday!

2 Jun

Hi all,

It’s comp time again.  Come down to the south end of the Bondi carpark this weekend for another kick ass get together.  This time, gammy knee and all, I’ll be there!

Rego closes at 8am, so make sure you’re there well before.  See you Saturday!

p.s Check out some pics from our BGSR weekend away in Bendalong.  Good food, good tunes, good waves, and an awesome bunch of girls…..recipe for a ripper time.  Thanks to Donna for organising it!

Kimmy Mac’s May Comp Round Up

14 May

The swell was pumping at Bondi last Saturday but as usual it was closing out along most of the beach. Lucky for us we were able to set up in the North Corner this month, having it mostly to ourselves for the first few hours.

There was a great vibe on the beach and plenty of action in the water. It was great to see a few of the ladies bringing their families and boyfriends along to cheer us all on. Thanks for your support guys, mums and dads.

The first heat paddled out early, while the rest of us chowed down on a healthy breakfast thanks to Chrissy Riakos. (Best bircher muesli on the coast!)

Was that a fun day or what?

8 Apr

Just to remind you what an awesome day our first BGSR comp was, here’s some pics courtesty of the papa of our rising junior beginners star Camille.  Thanks Cedric!

Thanks everyone for such a great turnout, and making it such a fantastic day (despite the howling gale).

See you all next month.

April Comp Wrap-Up

6 Apr

Brought to you this month by Kimberley Gillan as Kimberly MacMahon has skipped bail and gone to Bali. Take it away, Kim! (And thank you Frothers.)

The 2011 Bondi Girls Surfriders season got off to a banging start with a record turnout last Saturday. At 7.30am the tent was erected on the sand and girls started arriving by the truckload. Old members greeted each other after a summer of surfing and newcomers made themselves known.
Beautiful sets were rolling in and everyone was pumped to hit the water, but by 10am, a howling southerly hit town, turning the glassy waves into chunky chop. Everyone groaned about “typical Bondi”, but nonetheless soldiered on with a grin. (more…)

It’s Comp Time!

31 Mar

I once told my surf pal Pippa that I hate exclamation marks. But these days there is so much going on at BGSR Central, that your common garden variety punctuation cannot begin to convey to all of you out there just how excited we are about the year ahead.

First up, of course, is the kick-off to the competing season THIS SATURDAY 2ND APRIL at Bondi Beach. (I didn’t really need to put where, did I?) We have been swamped with queries about what to expect on Saturday, so for those of you who haven’t been with us for long (or for those with really bad memories), this is what you need to do:

1. go to bed early

2. get up early

3. arrive at the beach early

4. meet the rest of BGSR (clearly identified by their supercool surferdom looks) at – and this is where you really need to pay attention – THE SKATERAMP STEPS IN TIME FOR 7:30 REGISTRATION. At registration, you will join, pay fees and get your exclusive BGSR designer t-shirt. Please help this process along by coming with a completed registration form. This can be downloaded by going to ‘Membership’ and clicking on ‘Download Membership Form’.

BGSR Season starts Feb 26 – Bring on Legs ’11!

17 Feb

Hi all,

Get ready for a year of turning things on its head….legs up!

I’m really excited for this season, especially as we’ve decided that it’s about time we find out what YOU want out of bondi girls surfriders in 2011.

For our first get together of the year, we’re inviting everyone to come down to Bondi for a free surf, breaky BBQ and an opportunity to have your say about how we do things.

What would you like to see?  More free surfs?  More day trips to local beaches?  Inter-club comps?  BGSR Team events?  We want to hear your ideas, so I’d love to see all of you at our annual general meeting (AGM) to have your say in what we do, and who the people are that will help the club get there.

What: Free surf, BBQ Breaky and AGM
When: 8.30am, Sat 26 Feb (No comp first weekend in March as yours truly and a number of others are out of town)
Where: South Bondi Car Park, followed by BBQ and AGM in the backyard at Liv’s house (Near North Bondi Public School)

To get things cracking, please fill out this short online survey to give us an idea about what we should table at the AGM.  The meeting itself shouldn’t go for more than an hour or so, so you’ll be out of there in good time to enjoy your Saturday.

Can’t wait to see you all!

Liv.

November comp! And the countdown begins….

1 Nov

Hi ladies,

It’s time for our November comp – the final (official) comp for the year!  It’s land ahoy m’hearties…..

See you all this Saturday 6th from 7.30am.  We’ll meet at the south end of the car park as per usual.  Bring your woollens, it looks like it might be chilly.

Come along to Saturday’s comp and we’ll give you all the info you need to get prepared and super excited for our end of season free surf, preso and bash in December – theme this year is Pirates & Sea Hags.  Who would’ve guessed!

Lots of love, Liv x

Photos from March comp

21 Mar

Here’s a few pics from March’s comp day.  Because the first Saturday in April is Easter, the next comp is on April 17 (the Saturday before school goes back).

See you there!

Liv.
