Bondi turned on an amazing day for the Bondi Girls July comp in every way last Saturday and we were all stoked that mother nature had finally come up with the goods…
- The Sun was shining
- The Wind was offshore
- Plenty of fun 2ft+ waves
- Dolphins in the line up
- Uncrowded (for a saturday)
- Friendly vibe in the water
Hell, there were even people ice-skating on the beach!
In all my years in the club, i have never seen such an awesome final of the Adult beginners! These girls are surfing so well and are improving rapidly. It was inspiring to watch! In the end, Maggie took the honors, Michelle in 2nd and Sophia in 3rd. Special mention to Anna Sordo who impressed us all in her first ever comp, and Sarah Shannon who gets better every month.
You never know who will win the Junior girls, they are all great little surfers! Today was Camille’s day though, winning the heat hands down. Bella in 2nd, and Ruby close behind in 3rd.
The Advanced Juniors must have slept in! So, Rebecca convincingly won the points. (you snooze, you loose girls)
The Longboard girls had the added bonus of surfing with a pod of Dolphins that dropped in for a few quick ones. I was out there and couldn’t wipe the smile off my face!1st Brenda Miley, 2nd Kim McMahon, 3rd Donna Simpson Missing in action: Claire Norman (where are you girl?)
Jackie and new comer, Anne fought it out for the points in the Intermediate B’s with some fine surfing by both girls, but in the end there is only one winner. 1st Jackie, 2nd Anne
There were some pretty good waves coming through as the tide was running out for the final of the Intermediate A’s. Otis Carey was out there popping airs all over the place, we were wishing it was us! In the end Kim McMahon took the honors, Sophie Kijas in 2nd and Laura Fendt 3rd.
A Grade competition was fierce, everyone wanted the title today and the final was great to watch. Brenda, in top form (she also won Longboard) couldn’t be beaten, Juna came 2nd and Chrissy Riakos belted out an impressive 3rd place.
Other news – A special welcome to new members this month – Anna, Claire and Anne
BGSR Legend, Claire Norman competed in the NSW Longboard titles at Port Macquarie in June. She not only scored the highest heat score of the event, she came a respectable 2nd place, winning a spot in the NSW team to compete at the Aussie titles in August. Congrats Claire!
