80s Fashion Tip # 2

17 Nov

Well, I tried. Due to the popular demand (of one) I was fully prepared to trawl through my past and bring you more style bypass moments. I was thinking of the underwear-as-outerwear moment, the ragamuffin moment, the pouf skirt moment. I did them all. Probably in the same week. But I couldn’t find any photographic evidence. And now it all seems a little hazy….

So my second thought was to turn to Jennifer Beals for inspiration. Problem is Flashdance turns out to be more a state of mind than a state of dress. But (it being the theme of the party and all), if you must know: leotards, legwarmers and coal miners overalls. (Don’t ask. Even back then it didn’t make sense.) And, of course, the off-the-shoulder t-shirt avec dyke light.

So that leaves me with only, like, 102 options. Truly, it’s so hard to choose. The 80s were soooooo good. But because it gives me a bet each way, I’m going to pick:
Androgyny.
You know, boy dresses like girl, girl dresses like boy, boy dressing like girl dresses like boy. Or girl? Or whatever.
There was a song lyric in there somewhere.
Exhibit A – Annie Lennox
Exhibit B – Boy George

Now if you’ll excuse me I have to go back to trying to find a worse song lyric than
Culture Club’s ‘War war is stupid/And people are stupid’.

Sorry ’bout that Pippa. I did find one of me wearing a sailor’s cap and huge pearl earrings. But not sure if that counts as 80s or simply eternal style.

highly inspiring. Finding leg warmers are hard to come by unless you knit them yourself. I’m thinking Madonna cruifices and black netted everything….and Pat Benatar hair rags twisted in a hairspray tangle. So much to draw on.

Hey guys, I am Vicky Kuo and I am now in Canada. Maybe you have seen any resource that is quite the same as this ESL teaching site. I do not want to spend money, so let me have the link to any such free sites. Write me.

If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Finest Purchase and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which just one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile far more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.
